Background of the study
University libraries are central to the academic environment, offering vast resources and specialized services that support both scholarly activities and community education. In Ilesa East Local Government Area, university libraries have expanded their mandate beyond serving enrolled students to include community members, thus playing a crucial role in lifelong learning and community empowerment (Oyekan, 2023). These institutions provide access to research materials, educational workshops, and digital learning platforms that enhance the educational landscape. Their outreach programs, including seminars, public lectures, and collaboration with local organizations, have significantly contributed to community education by addressing local needs and bridging the gap between formal education and community learning (Adebayo, 2024). Nevertheless, challenges such as limited resources, infrastructural deficits, and a lack of effective communication channels persist, undermining the full potential of university libraries in community education. This study investigates how university library services contribute to community education in Ilesa East, focusing on service delivery, community engagement, and the integration of innovative educational practices (Ayoola, 2024).

Statement of the problem
University library services in Ilesa East, though extensive, face challenges in effectively reaching and educating the broader community. Limited operational budgets, infrastructural constraints, and inadequate promotional strategies have led to underutilization of the available educational resources. Furthermore, the disconnect between academic content and community needs has resulted in suboptimal engagement from non-student community members. Addressing these challenges is crucial to harness the full potential of university libraries as centers of community education. This study aims to explore these issues, pinpoint gaps in service delivery, and propose measures that can enhance the role of university libraries in community education (Ibrahim, 2023).
